Orienteering
ORIENTEERING is the sport of navigation with map and compass. The object is to run to a series of points shown on the map, choosing routes through bushes, mud, swamps, streams, and forests–both on and off trail–that will help you find all the required points and get back to the finish in the shortest amount of time.

New this year the season is divided into 2 parts, the Core Program (Spring & Fall) and the Learn to Race Drop-in season (Summer)
1. Core Program April-June (10 sessions): Learn orienteering specific skills with your friends. Lots of coaching and games. Every session ends with a short course.
2. Learn to Race Drop-in July-August (6 sessions): Get right out into the wilderness; put to work what you learned in the spring! Sessions start with a 15min group forest game, then challenge yourself with longer courses of varying difficulty. Lots of courses, lots of outdoor bush bashing adventure! Groups will be meeting all summer long but you won't fall behind if you have to miss a few sessions for family vacation. End the summer with a week of races and a National Junior Training camp here in Alberta.
14-16/Aug - Sass Peepree Junior Training Camp (10-20yrs) Registration is separate and not included in JDP. For preliminary info and registration for the camp, go to www.coc2012.ca/junniorcamp
3. Core Program Wrap-up (Aug 29 -Sept 12) 3 sessions. Been away for the summer? Recovered from the Canadian Champs? Reconnect with friends with more games and courses. The Club Championship camping weekend and the Wrap-Up Party at the Corn Maze are not to be missed!
